A Weekend in Salcombe

Salcombe, Devon

This weekend I went for a spontaneous trip down to Devon and stayed in a beautiful little cottage just across the estuary from Salcombe. I don't think we could have picked a better weekend to visit; the skies were blue, the weather was warm and summer's only just beginning so one of England's busiest tourist towns was actually pretty quiet. Parking in the centre is nevertheless a bloody nightmare, so we parked up alongside some overgrown shrubs in East Portlemouth and got the 'ferry' across to Salcombe (cue the man in the boat). I'd never been to Salcombe before but I brought my hefty Canon along with me to take some snaps as I wandered around the town, and hopefully they can give you an idea of just how beautiful it is. Let the incessant stream of seaside photos begin.

During our wanders we came across a handbag and accessories workshop/boutique on Island Street called Will Bees Bespoke. There are so many amazing boutiques and galleries scattered around Salcombe, but this one's quirky design caught my eye. As soon as I stepped in, I beelined towards the red and green paisley Liberty print tote that you can see in the third picture down. I also loved the keyring bar where you could pick a leather keyring and have your initials embossed on it there and then in the store.

Now tell me if I cropped that last photo you wouldn't think it was the Bahamas?! Well, maybe, anyway. I still can't believe our luck with the weather. If a miniature heatwave like this happens again then I'd say get in the car, train, plane, dinghy - whatever - and go to Devon as fast as you can. Have you ever been to Salcombe before? Does it look like somewhere you'd like to go?
