January Favourites

January Favourites

Forget January blues - I've been absolutely loving this month. After a mad essay cram in the week after New Year, I got some time to relax up in Scotland before heading back to university to start my final semester. The dissertation is really moving into motion and I'm seriously appreciating every single second spent with my friends before we all graduate and turn grown up (sure) and head off in our different directions. I've also been on a bit of a health kick that's left me feeling great. But it was also a great month because I found some of those products that make you want to kick yourself for not finding sooner, which I'll give you a quick rundown of now.

Bourjois So Laque Glossy Nail Polish in Indispen-sable

Bourjois So Laque Glossy Nail Colour in 11 Indispen-sable

Lord knows how tricky it is to find a nude nail polish that suits my pale, pink and pasty hands. I've tried (and ditched) a hefty number because they were either too pink, too yellow or required too many coats. I had not lost hope, however, when I saw Bourjois' So Laque Glossy in Indispen-sable in Boots and I thought 'this has got to be the one', so I gave it a go and I'm definitely happy I had.

Valentine's Day Pearls from Absolute Pearls

White Pearl Hoop Earrings from Absolute Pearls

White Pearl Hoop Earrings from Absolute Pearls

I wear jewellery pretty much every day. You'll rarely see me with anything flashy (say the word 'statement' and I run a mile), but I love simple, delicate pieces that complement rather than stand out. Since I wear jewellery all the time, I'm a big, big fan of investing in high quality pieces that I know will last the distance and won't snap at the slightest snag or turn bits of my skin green. When Absolute Pearls got in touch, I knew that their White Pearl Hoop Earrings* were going to be right up my alley for these very reasons. Sorry for the terrible quality iPhone photos, but long days in the library don't bode well for photo taking.

Book Review: Revival

Revival by Stephen King Book Review

I've always thought Stephen King is one of the best modern storytellers out there. While predominantly known as a horror writer, his other short stories and novels like Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile and The Body (made into the film Stand by Me) prove that he doesn't need gore to shock and grip his readers. Revival is his latest book - only published in November last year - and I think it may be one of my favourites.

Beginnings of a LUSH Collection

Beginnings of a LUSH Collection

Beginnings of a LUSH Collection

I'll be honest and say that I've always found LUSH an overwhelming and almost unpleasant shop to go into. The ones I've been to are always crowded, there's always SO many products crammed onto shelves and the packaging is hard to distinguish between and has a font that's a little hard to read. Phew - it feels good to get that off my chest.

The other day, however, I was sent a LUSH shower gel as a giveaway prize and I instantly fell in love. Apart from their Mint Julips lip scrub, this was the first LUSH product I'd tried and I was fairly impressed. I then happened to be in Reading quite late so had the shop almost to myself and the freedom to spend ages picking up a few things that I liked the sound of. I'm not quite a LUSH convert, but I'm getting there.

Now Playing / 3

I feel like there's been a tonne of great music out lately that I can't stop listening to. There's no theme to this month's Now Playing except that they're all relatively recent songs, or have featured on recently released albums and are some of my favourites. I'm always looking for new music to listen to so if you've got a favourite song lately then please let me know in the comments below!

Book Review: The Miniaturist

The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton Review

Jessie Burton's The Miniaturist has received some impressive accolades since its publication - both the Sunday Times Number One Bestseller and Waterstone's 2014 Book of the Year - and there's a horde of Goodreads reviewers who think it's the best book they've ever read. It's easy to say that my expectations were high, especially as I've read some incredible books that were also published in 2014. Unfortunately, they must have been a little too high as I found that ultimately, for me, this book fell a little flat.

Dr Jart+ Platinum BB Cream Review

Dr. Jart+ is a Korean name that only made an appearance in the UK a couple of years ago, but since its arrival I've used nothing else when the dry winter air hits my skin. I've gone through squeezy tube after squeezy tube of the stuff and I know that this one won't be my last either.

The Art of Getting Out of Bed in the Morning

The Art of Getting Out of Bed in the Morning

I, like many others of you out there, am not a morning person. I love working night shifts because it means I can lie in until 2pm if I want to, but unfortunately it's been a couple years since I was a teenager so I no longer have that excuse for a lie-in on my side.

Over the last few months, I've started making some small changes to my daily routine that help me heave myself out of bed in the mornings. The best thing is that I've found they've actually been working. Everyone's different so these tips may not be for you, but I thought I'd share them just in case they are.

Maybelline Super Stay Gel Nail Color in Rose Poudré

My love for these affordable and durable polishes was something I discussed back in October, but another post can't hurt. Creme Eggs are making their way onto shelves and the days are getting longer, which means it's time to start thinking about spring and also to start putting down the dark and vampy nail colours I've refused to part with for most of the end of 2014.

My Bucket List

My Bucket List

Since this is everyone's favourite (and just about only?) time of the year for resolutions, I thought it'd be interesting to look at the bigger picture and see what I want out of my entire life rather than just out of 2015. I was inspired by Katy's (The Lilac Scrapbook) list last year and decided to try and make one of my own!  It's incomplete and will no doubt change every week, but this is what's on it so far:

I've heard good things about L'Oréal's eyeshadows so I was keen to try one out for myself. Being bold, daring and adventurous, I opted for the nude shade 200 Over the Taupe, which is a beautiful all-year-round neutral that's not too warm and not too cool.
