'How do you take your blog photos?' is a question I am asked every now and again. A small percentage of you have thought I work around an expensive studio set up (ha ha), but the same group of people are predictably rather underwhelmed when they see how I actually take my blog photos. The usual reaction: 'Oh, is that it?' Yep, white paper and good lighting - that's it.

My older blog posts are a testimony to how awful I used to be with a camera, so I thought I'd share the little tips and tricks I've gathered over the last few months that help me capture crisp, eye catching images that, from my experience, people are more likely to click on. I want to stress that I am definitely not an expert in photography, and there is most certainly a lot still left for me to learn, but in the meanwhile I reckoned it could be useful to some people if I share what I know so far.

A Weekend in Salcombe

Salcombe, Devon

This weekend I went for a spontaneous trip down to Devon and stayed in a beautiful little cottage just across the estuary from Salcombe. I don't think we could have picked a better weekend to visit; the skies were blue, the weather was warm and summer's only just beginning so one of England's busiest tourist towns was actually pretty quiet. Parking in the centre is nevertheless a bloody nightmare, so we parked up alongside some overgrown shrubs in East Portlemouth and got the 'ferry' across to Salcombe (cue the man in the boat). I'd never been to Salcombe before but I brought my hefty Canon along with me to take some snaps as I wandered around the town, and hopefully they can give you an idea of just how beautiful it is. Soap & Glory Sexy Motherpucker Matte Lipstick in Super Nude

I've always found Soap & Glory to be either hit or miss when it comes to cosmetics. Their face powders and brow pencils are real winners, while other products like their mascara and under-eye concealer have been duds in my opinion. Unperturbed by the risk of buying another one of their products without reading some online reviews first, I took a gamble and picked up the Sexy Motherpucker Matte Lipstick in the shade Super Nude. Did the gamble pay off? It certainly did.

March Favourites

March Favourites
March Favourites

I've been particularly broke in March so I've decided to 'shop my stash' and pick out some products that've been my favourites for a while now. It's always nice to rekindle an old flame, but I've also discovered a couple of great new and affordable items from Barry M along the way. There's nothing too flashy on this list - just some amazing products that I've turned to nearly every day this month that I thought I'd share with you lovely lot.

If you follow my blog or Instagram then you might notice that in all my snaps I pretty much always have a ring on. Call me obsessed but I can't seem to go a day without wearing at least one piece of jewellery, whether that's a ring, earrings or a necklace (but usually the delightful combination of all three). I thought I'd give you a look at the pieces that have withstood the brunt of daily wear, as well as a new piece kindly sent over to me by the people at Gemporia that I absolutely love the look of.
